On the 16th December 2009 Gay Edwards, the High Sheriff for the Isle of Wight visited the Cowes friendship group.

The visit was incorporated into a jewellery making session which made a relaxed and informal way to get to know each other. Gay talked to the group members about the history of the High Sheriff role. The ladies were very interested in this as few realised we had a High Sheriff on the Island and most of us had no understanding of the position.

We also talked about the different religions of the group and the racism that some of the members had encountered. Gay was empathic and showed understanding of the issues.
It was an informative group session on both sides and the members felt proud that Gay had made the visit. Gay has put a summary of the event on her online diary.
